OTTAWA, Feb. 23, 2015 /CNW/ - Following her discussions with Canadian National Railway and Unifor, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, issued the following statement:
"I am very pleased that the Canadian National Railway (CN) and Unifor were able to renew their collective agreements this evening eliminating any threat to the Canadian economy. I know that it will benefit not only the parties involved but all Canadians. I firmly believe that the best solution is always the one that the parties reach themselves.
I am pleased that they sought the assistance of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to work out their differences. It was through the determination and dedication of the parties themselves that they resolved their differences and found solutions. Strong labour relations benefit employers, the union, Canadians and the Canadian economy."
