OTTAWA, Nov. 23, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Hon. John McCallum, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today issued the following statement:
"This morning, Minister of Public Safety Ralph Goodale and I had the great pleasure of speaking with members of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) "Big City Mayors Caucus", as well as the FCM's Chief Executive Officer. The mayors or mayoral representatives who attended did so on behalf of the cities of Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta; Vancouver, British Columbia; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Brampton, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Mississauga, Ottawa, Toronto and Windsor, Ontario; Gatineau, Laval, Montreal and Quebec City, Quebec; and Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
"Our discussion focused on our plans to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada, and how these Canadian cities can contribute to the successful resettlement of those arriving in the coming weeks.
"As Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, I continue to be impressed and inspired by the overwhelmingly positive response we have been receiving from our domestic and international partners, as we take action to help Syrian refugees rebuild their lives in our great country."
