OTTAWA, April 29, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, commended Securitas Transport Aviation Security Limited and the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1976 following ratification of three new collective agreements by members at 10 Quebec airports.
"I am pleased that Securitas Transport Aviation Security Limited and the United Steelworkers have worked together to successfully negotiate these collective agreements," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations benefit the economic prosperity and security of Canadians."
The USW union represents some 180 employees working at airports in Québec City, Val d'Or, Rouyn-Noranda, Baie-Comeau, Mont-Joli, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Sept-Îles, Gaspé, Bagotville and Alma. All of these employees are responsible for the pre-boarding security screening of passengers.
Securitas Transport Aviation Security Limited provides screening services to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) at designated airports in Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nunavut.
The agreements were reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, which provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the Canada Labour Code.
