MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 3, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, today highlighted the role of cooperative and constructive labour relations in keeping Canadian businesses healthy and competitive at the annual general meeting of Federally Regulated Employers - Transportation and Communications (FETCO).
"By ensuring that Canadian workplaces remain fair, safe and productive, the Government of Canada is supporting workers and their families and contributing to Canada's prosperity," said Minister Raitt. "When Canadian workplaces are running well, our whole economy benefits."
FETCO is made up of employers and employer associations in the transportation and communications sectors which come under federal labour jurisdiction. It is involved in issues such as industrial relations, occupational health and safety, labour standards, human rights, pay equity, employment equity, privacy, pensions and workers compensation.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code. These laws for federally regulated workers and employers cover industrial relations and health, safety and employment standards.
