Minister Steven Blaney Announces Support for the Corporation de la Maison Natale de Louis Fréchette

LÉVIS, QC, Sept. 23, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Member of Parliament (Lévis-Bellechasse), today announced funding for the Corporation de la Maison natale de Louis Fréchette. He made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

The Corporation will use this funding to host the 2013 Festival international du conte Jos Violon de Lévis from October 17 to 27, as well as to commemorate, in 2014, the 175^th anniversary of the birth of Louis Fréchette birth and the building of his childhood home.

"Louis Fréchette made his mark on the history of Lévis and the region through his literary creations, among other things," said Minister Blaney. "Today, the Corporation de la Maison natale de Louis Fréchette is working to preserve and showcase this heritage while promoting the region's cultural development By supporting our history, culture, and traditions, we strengthen our economy and contribute to the vitality of our communities."

"Canada has a rich history, and our Government is proud to give Canadians a chance to explore it," said Minister Glover. "By supporting cultural and heritage organizations, the Government of Canada is giving citizens the chance to take part in local activities that commemorate the history of their communities and showcase local artists and artisans."

"The members of the corporation appreciate this generous act, which encourages cultural initiatives in our community and helps showcase our heritage."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $15,300 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
