Minister Wilkinson discusses protecting the Southern Resident Killer Whale with BC Premier Horgan and Washington Governor Inslee Français
OTTAWA, Oct. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, Minister Wilkinson met with Washington State Governor Inslee and BC Premier John Horgan in Vancouver.
They discussed the importance of ongoing joint efforts on protecting whale populations, specifically the at-risk Southern Resident Killer Whale population.
Minister Wilkinson commended Governor Inslee on the thorough work of the Southern Resident Killer Whale Task Force. The Minister, Governor and Premier agreed on the need to strengthen the collaborative relationship between jurisdictions.
All leaders acknowledged commitment to pursuing further concrete actions for the protection of whales such as increasing science and monitoring efforts, harvest reductions, chinook enhancement and restoration efforts and vessel disturbance mitigation.
