GATINEAU, QC, June 30, 2014 /CNW/ - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) announced today that the modernized occurrence reporting requirements in Part I of the Transportation Safety Board Regulations comes into effect on 1 July 2014.
Part I of the Regulations define the criteria for transportation occurrences that must be reported to the TSB. They strengthen the rules governing occurrence reporting in Canada by introducing additional requirements for railways, for the release of dangerous goods, and for lighter aircraft. The Regulations also modernize and introduce definitions that are harmonized with other federal legislation, international agreements and standards and clarify provisions that had been subject to interpretation.
The TSB has developed Fact Sheets to help industry stakeholders and Canadians better understand the updated occurrence reporting requirements. Updated information for marine, pipeline, rail and aviation modes is also available on the TSB website.
In developing these Regulations, the TSB consulted with the public, regulators, provincial governments, industry associations and transportation companies.
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
