Montréal is a candidate for hosting the Metropolis congress in 2017 - Mayor of Montréal on a mission in Argentina Français
MONTRÉAL, May 16, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Mayor of Montréal, Denis Coderre, will visit Buenos Aires, in Argentina, on May 18 and 19, 2015, as part of an economic mission during which he will attend the Metropolis Annual Meeting, which is co-presided by Montréal. Mayor Coderre plans to support Montréal's candidacy as a host city for the 2017 Metropolis world congress, which coincides with Montréal's 375th anniversary. This mission aims to create business partnerships with companies from Argentina that do business in Canada and to strengthen the city's political relationships with the Buenos Aires Government.
"In this age of globalization and liberalization of the economy, international relations are no longer the exclusive responsibility of the States. Cities and especially metropolises have a vital role to play and are increasingly involved in international policies and economic development," said Mayor Coderre.
This year, the statutory meetings of Metropolis, an international association bringing together cities of more than one million inhabitants, are held in Buenos Aires, from May 18 to 21, with Live the City as a theme. For elected officials and executives of the world's largest cities, this event is a unique opportunity to meet as well as share knowledge and best practices in the field of metropolitan management.
Mayor Coderre will support Montréal's bid to host the Metropolis congress in 2017, which is held every three years. He will also invite the mayors present in Buenos Aires to attend the Living Together Summit, to be held in Montréal next June, and of which Metropolis is a partner.
Various meetings with elected officials and business leaders are on the mission's agenda, including an event by the Chamber of Commerce Argentine-Canadian (CCAC) and the Canadian Embassy.
