China's entries tie ex aequo for the International Jury's Grand Honorary Award while Mother Earth wins the Qatar Airways People's Choice Award.
MONTREAL, Sept. 27, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The International Mosaïculture Committee (IMC) is proud to announce the works that have won the International Jury's Grand Honorary Award, the Qatar Airways People's Choice Award and the Frédéric Back Award. The award ceremony will take place tonight during the MIM2013 Closing Gala at Montreal's City Hall, in the presence of more than 150 dignitaries and guests of honour.
Two creations entered by China, A True Story!, presented by the city of Shanghai, and Planting Plane Trees to Attract the Phoenix, presented by the city of Beijing, won the International Jury's Grand Honorary Award. The winner of this award at the national level is Born with the Sun, a creation of the Assembly of the First Nations of Eastern Quebec and Labrador. As for the Honorary 3D Award, the prize goes to the city of Hamamatsu, in Japan, for the work Hamamatsu, City of Creativity: Looking Toward the Future Through a Symbiosis of Man and Nature. At the national level, this award was given to Bees-A Source of Life, a creation of Verdun Borough.
Although, Mosaïcultures Internationales de Montréal's works were shown outside of the competition, they remained eligible for the Qatar Airways People's Choice Award. In fact, one of its creation, the moving Mother Earth, has received this award. It was followed closely by the staggering Bird Tree, also created by the Montreal organisation, world leader in mosaïculture. More than 80 thousands visitors voted for their coup de coeur at the Qatar Airways International Hub during the summer.
More than fifty entries were presented during this 5th edition of the Mosaïcultures Internationales® and some twenty awards were given according to the following criteria: compliance with the general theme, Land of Hope; embodiment of the participant's culture; composition and quality of the mosaïculture; as well as the use of innovative techniques by the horticultural artists in the topic development and use of materials.
The Public is Unanimous
This world class event, now in its final weekend, has marveled more than 900,000 visitors to date. Lise Cormier, President of the International Mosaïculture Committee is very proud of this extraordinary success: "MIM2013/Land of Hope surpasses all previous editions by the quality of the works and the excitement that the event has generated among thousands of visitors from here and abroad. The expertise acquired over the past 13 years has given birth to masterpieces and has demonstrated without a doubt that mosaïculture is a living art. The public has been seduced by so much beauty and Montreal can be proud of this international success."

The Jury's Award
The Mosaïcultures were evaluated by the members of the International Jury during their visit on September 3. The Jury which is headed by Mr. Peter Jacobs, professor at the Landscape Architecture School of the University of Montreal's Faculty of Environmental Design, is also composed of prominent figures in the international horticultural community such as Mr. Janic Gourlet (Vice President Europe (IMC) and Director of the Société Nationale d'Horticulture de France), Mr. Ettore Zauli (Vice President Africa (IMC) and PHD Agronomy, Italy), Mr. Alexios Vardakis (Member (IMC) and Supervisor, Green Space of National Technic University of Athenes), Mr. Gilles Vincent, Director of the Montreal Botanical Garden and Mr. Vincent Asselin of WAA International, a firm specializing in landscape architecture and urban design.
