New Government, new Minister of Education Recreation and Sports - Same very important English education system Français
MONTREAL, April 23, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) is pleased to offer well-deserved congratulations to Yves Bolduc on his appointment today as Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports. The experience that Mr. Bolduc will bring to this very important ministry will certainly be of value to all partners in public education.
"Today, we have a new Minister of Education. QESBA has always held positive and productive relationships with successive Ministers of Education and we are quite certain that this will not be an exception," said David D'Aoust QESBA President.
"We are sure that this government and Minister of Education will hit the ground running and reconvene the Table Québec-commissions scolaires to gain a broader perspective on English public education before depositing a budget this spring," continued D'Aoust. "Student success has always been our first priority and we are quite convinced that this Minister will join us in placing our students first."
The nine English language school boards across Québec are responsible for educating 100,000 students in primary, secondary, adult and vocational programs.
"We will also face the first school board electoral process in seven years without any formal electoral funding earmarked by the Ministry. Our society relies on a democratic process; let's ensure that our constituents have a clear and loud voice on school board election date of November 2. With the ever-changing budget rules, school boards have not identified where this elections funding will come from. This is another reason the Table Québec-commissions scolaires must meet right away.," said D'Aoust.
"We look forward to meeting with Mr. Bolduc very soon in this first mandate and look forward to a long and healthy partnership." concluded D'Aoust.
QESBA is the voice of the English public education in Québec.
