RED ROCK, ON, April 27, 2018 /CNW/ - The governments of Canada and Ontario are committed to investing in local infrastructure that ensures Canadians and their families have access to modern, reliable water and wastewater services that meet their needs. These investments safeguard the health and well-being of residents, protect provincial waterways and preserve local ecosystems.
The Honourable Patricia A. Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour and Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay–Superior North, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; the Honourable Michael Gravelle, Ontario Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Member of Provincial Parliament for Thunder Bay–Superior North; and His Worship Gary Nelson, Mayor for the Township of Red Rock, today announced federal-provincial funding for the Township of Red Rock's Water Pollution Control Plant project.
The Government of Canada is contributing up to $8.57 million to this project through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component – National and Regional Projects, representing up to one-third of the estimated $25.71 million total eligible project cost. The Government of Ontario is contributing two-thirds for approximately $17.14 million.
Thanks to this investment, residents of Red Rock and the Nipigon Bay area will benefit from an improved, modern, and reliable wastewater system that can accommodate future growth and economic development throughout the area. Once the project is complete, the Township of Red Rock will be in compliance with existing provincial regulations as well as federal water quality regulations that will be enforced starting in 2030. This project is essential to keeping local waterways clean and surrounding communities healthy and livable.
