TORONTO, Nov. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) has opened nominations for its second annual Golden Scissors Award. This award recognizes individuals or teams of people who have produced real results in cutting red tape for small businesses, and demonstrated leadership on the issue.
"Hard-working entrepreneurs say that red tape is one of the biggest problems they face." said CFIB executive vice president Laura Jones. "The Golden Scissors Award is CFIB's way of honouring politicians, public servants and other Canadians who are helping us lead Canada's Red Tape Revolution."
Nominations are open until November 30thand can be made by emailing [email protected]. CFIB is looking for inspiring stories - big or small - about Canadians who are finding unique and innovative ways to reduce harmful and excessive regulations on small business owners. The winner and honourable mentions will be announced in January during CFIB's Red Tape Awareness Week.
Last year's winner was British Columbia's Minister of Finance, Kevin Falcon, for his efforts to cut red tape by 40 per cent, and for introducing the Regulatory Reporting Act, which requires the province to publish annual reports on regulatory reform.
"Considering small and medium-sized businesses represent half of Canada's total private sector workforce and GDP, the impact of red tape on our economy and standard of living is huge," said Richard Truscott, CFIB's director of provincial affairs for Alberta. "By shining a light on the problem, and recognizing those political leaders who are making a difference for Canada's job creators, CFIB is standing up for small business."
As Canada's largest association of small- and medium-sized businesses, CFIB is Powered by Entrepreneurs™. Established in 1971, CFIB takes direction from more than 109,000 members in every sector nationwide, giving independent business a strong and influential voice at all levels of government and helping to grow the economy.
