Award categories include Innovation, Financial Leadership and Lifetime Achievement
OTTAWA, Nov. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - Nominations are now being accepted at www.comptrollershipaward.com for the 2013 Award of Excellence for Comptrollership in the Public Sector. In its fifth year, the awards program celebrates remarkable examples of public sector comptrollership, accountability and financial management.
Presented by Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), the awards are given to a federal public servant or team that has made a significant contribution to financial management or comptrollership within the Government of Canada.
"These awards highlight the essential role of innovation in stimulating Canadian productivity," said Joy Thomas, President and CEO, CMA Canada. "By sharing and promoting the best practices that have been demonstrated by our winners and finalists, our goal is to inspire others to deliver similar high standards of performance and make a real difference in their workplace, and in society as a whole."
Any person within the Government of Canada, as well as the general public, is eligible to submit a nomination for the Innovation, Financial Leadership (CFO) or Lifetime Achievement award categories. An independent selection committee comprised of senior public servants and industry experts will judge and determine the award winners, which will be revealed at the awards dinner sponsored by the Association of Canadian Financial Officers to be held in Ottawa in spring 2013.
"We have seen in the global crisis just how important it is for governments to demonstrate high quality financial management In the way they manage their affairs. We can also see the dire consequences for public services, economic growth and development and for people's lives, where they fail to do so," said Steve Freer, Chief Executive, CIPFA. "We should all applaud the innovators and leaders who demonstrate excellence in comptrollership and inspire others to strive for higher standards."
The deadline for all nominations is February 8, 2013.
