MONTREAL, May 14, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The six annual NorthSec cybersecurity event is taking place this year from May 14th to the 20th. In addition to being the world's largest onsite Capture-The-Flag style challenge competition (CTF), this year, NorthSec is holding a conference with several renowned speakers and offering professional training to attendees from experts in the field. The event's vocation consists of training professionals and up and coming individuals in information security and providing them with a space to exchange cutting edge ideas. For anyone interested in IT security in North America, this event is a must.
Conference
Canadian, American and European experts will be meeting to discuss current techniques with industry leaders. Access Control Bypassing, cryptography and incident responses are just few of the topics that will be addressed on May 17 and 18th at Montreal's Bonsecours Market. In addition to the presentations, practical workshops will also be held for participants who would like to acquire new skills and practical knowledge of defensive techniques to counter IT systems attacks.
Competition
50 teams of professionals and students will be taking part in a competition at the Bonsecours Market in a virtual environment that reproduces the Internet. "The participants will be honing their skills in a controlled environment. We want to create the best security professionals possible and this provides us with a hands on opportunity to test their mettle" says NorthSec President Gabriel Tremblay. "This is one of the most difficult challenges of its kind in Canada and it has the largest number of participants gathered in a single place. Every year, the number of professionals and students registered increases significantly—there are over 400 participants this year!" Held over the course of three days, the participants spend nearly thirty hours tackling challenges in a real world setting. They acquire their "virtual flags" by solving security problems. The team with the most flags takes home the honours.
Professional training
The leading experts in several IT security fields will be here to offer three full days of training on exclusive content. This training provides the type of concrete skills that directly impact the technical prowess of cybersecurity professionals.
