Ontario's colleges praise call for improvements to higher education
TORONTO, Oct. 26 /CNW/ - Ontario's colleges are praising the recommendations to improve higher education contained in a report released today by the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HEQCO).
"This report will help support discussions about improving the access to higher education in Ontario and the quality of postsecondary education delivered," said Linda Franklin, the president and CEO of Colleges Ontario. "This is a real opportunity to move forward in some important areas."
The report, called The Benefits of Greater Differentiation of Ontario's University Sector, was released this morning.
While the report focuses on universities, it raises an important point about the opportunities to be found in an improved system for the transfer of completed credits when a college or university student transfers to another institution. The report also raises awareness of the issue of expanding the range of degree programs provided at colleges.
"We are pleased to see the recognition of the importance of these issues," Franklin said. "These are areas that could significantly improve the delivery of postsecondary education throughout the province."
