Molson M commissions renowned international illustrator and Canadians artists to create a work of art in Downtown Toronto from the public's tweets to #MOLSONM_ART in support of the Canadian Art Foundation
TORONTO, April 19, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Every medium has its master, and today Molson M has commissioned celebrated international artist Kustaa Saksi to create a mural in his signature modern psychedelic, radiant style that will unfold with every tweet to #MolsonM_Art. The mural will come to life on a giant scale on a King St. wall just West of Church Street in Toronto. The ultimate goal: a beautiful artwork which will include up to 20,000 Twitter handles for the public to enjoy, and a matching $1 donation for each tweet, up to $20,000 to the Canadian Art Foundation for the advancement of art in Canada.
"The goal of this project is to celebrate artistry and mastery. Whether it's paint to canvas, chisel to stone or pen to paper, artistry is a beautiful blend of precision and passion. Molson M is made with this level of care and it represents our mastery of brewing," says Dave Bigioni, Senior director of Marketing at Molson Coors Canada. "With this project, art lovers, beer drinkers, passers-by - any Canadian - can play a real part in bringing art to life and showing their support for art in Canada."
Molson M is asking art enthusiasts everywhere to tweet using #MolsonM_Art over the next four weeks, and with each tweet, Molson M will donate $1 to the Canadian Art Foundation and the tweeters handles will be incorporated into the mural. People can look for their handles on the 40-feet-high by 100-feet-wide painted mural at the corner of King and Church streets.
"The goal of the Canadian Art Foundation is to provide a destination for artists and art enthusiasts to connect and be inspired by art, and this collaborative approach to art does just that," says Ann Webb, Executive Director of the Canadian Art Foundation. "The mural will be a wonderful mix of global and Canadian artistic talent, and the generous support of Molson M will help us carry on our work to nurture more local, national and global visibility for the extraordinary artistic talent in Canada."
People will be able to watch the mural progress on location on King west of Church, and through photographs on Facebook and on Twitter. The mural will be completed in mid-May and remain on display until early June.
The project will also be supported by art reproductions on bus shelters and wall murals in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto and Calgary by Canadian artist Patrick Thompson, who is known for pushing the boundaries of street art throughout the world, and Canadian designer Felix Wittholz, who works in an experimental fashion with artists and musicians as well as multi-national corporations.
