Chicago becomes the largest bike-sharing city in North America
MONTREAL, May 7, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - PBSC Urban Solutions is happy to announce that the delivery of the expansion of the Chicago Divvy bike-sharing system has been completed, with 1,760 bikes in the past 6 weeks. This expansion will make Chicago the city with the most bike-share stations and largest service area in North America with 476 stations and 4,760 bikes.
With an existing system of 300 stations and 3,000 Divvy bikes installed in 2013, the City of Chicago chose PBSC Urban Solutions once again for the expansion of the system. Under the phase II of this project, PBSC has delivered 176 new wireless solar powered stations and 1,760 specially designed and comfortable bikes.
"The Divvy bike-share program is changing the way people get around the city," said Sean Wiedel from the Chicago Department of Transportation. "It is crucial to use the latest technology to create a service our citizens will enjoy, and this is why we are working hand in hand with PBSC. With their quality system, we are able to offer a convenient, fast, fun, and efficient bike-sharing system to Chicago. We can expect to see a lot of the signature blue bikes all over Chicago this summer!"
With 110 million rides, close to 43,000 bikes and 3,500 stations in 16 cities across the world, PBSC Urban Solutions is the best partner to effectively deliver alternative urban transportation projects.
"Bike sharing is becoming a significant part of our lives, and it's important to be able to adapt our system to the needs of different cities," said Luc Sabbatini, President of PBSC Urban Solutions. "We are very proud to achieve this milestone with the City of Chicago, one of the best cities for cycling in America. With this expansion, Chicago proves its leadership in multi-mode commute and becomes the North American capital of bike-sharing."
Bike-sharing systems are the most effective when they serve a maximum of neighbourhoods with a high number of stations. With the recent Divvy expansion, the city of Chicago will offer citizens and visitors an optimal alternative to traditional urban transportation, and one that is much greener and healthier.
