MONTREAL, Dec. 9, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - On November 29, 2015, Pope Francis declared Bangui, in the Central African Republic, the "spiritual capital of the world." Changing Roman precedence, he opened a "Door of Mercy" in a country torn by violence before leaving to meet refugees with an imam. In this way, he intended to proclaim that mercy is a "force" capable of resolving conflicts that poison the planet.
In Rome, on December 8, he repeated the gesture of opening a Door of Mercy, reviving an ancient tradition in the Church, and inaugurating a jubilee year. The last jubilee took place in 2000.
As well, not only will a "Door of Mercy" be opened in a few majestic basilicas worldwide, but also in thousands of churches on all five continents.
At Pope Francis' request, Montreal will have its "doors" starting with the one at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral, which the Archbishop, Most Reverend Christian Lépine, will open on Saturday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m.
