/R E P E A T -- Media Opportunity - Unique Story Topic: Archeology at La Mauricie National Park/ Français
SAINT-JEAN-DES-PILES, QC, Aug. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Parks Canada has an unusual story idea thanks to the work of an archeologist at La Mauricie National Park, whose discoveries are bringing the past to light.
Intensive logging operations were carried out in La Mauricie National Park's territory in the 19th and 20th centuries. Despite establishment of the Park in 1970, remains of the log-drive era persist hidden in the landscape of this protected natural area.
On Thursday, August 22, at 9 a.m., Parks Canada is providing media representatives with the opportunity to visit an impressive site hidden in the Park's forest, in the company of archeologist Pierre Cloutier, to observe, photograph, and film the unique vestiges of the forestry era.
No official trail leads to the site, so please bring good footwear. You will be climbing 400 metres through a dense forest. But the site's discovery is worth the effort!
