RCMP and CBSA Seize Prohibited Weapons

LONDON, ON, April 3, 2012 /CNW/ - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), London Detachment and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Southern Ontario Region successfully completed a joint investigation where a number of prohibited weapons were seized.

CBSA officers at the International Mail Processing Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia intercepted a parcel destined for London, Ontario on March 20^th, 2012. The parcel, which originated from Hong Kong, was examined and found to contain a stun gun which is a prohibited weapon in Canada. As a result, CBSA and the RCMP initiated a joint investigation in which a search warrant was executed at a London residence on March 30^th, 2012. While searching the residence, officers seized 13 stun guns, 2 pistol crossbows, 2 canisters of pepper spray, a switch blade knife, a silencer, a 20 round magazine, a small quantity of marihuana and 14 firearms which were improperly stored including a loaded hand gun.

A 29 year old London man was arrested and faces multiple firearms related charges including importation of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized and possession of a controlled substance.

"Importation and possession of prohibited weapons are serious criminal offences and are treated as such by the RCMP, its partners and stakeholders, as these types of crimes can have significant impacts on the safety and security of our communities," stated RCMP Inspector Dwight Blok, Officer in charge of London Detachment.
