TORONTO, March 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) - London Integrated Proceeds of Crime and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement- Drug Unit and the Norfolk County Detachment have made an additional arrest stemming from a marihuana grow-operation seized in May, 2013 in Port Dover.
In May, 2013 a substantial indoor marihuana grow-operation was seized and two individuals were arrested. Further investigation has revealed that the homeowner, Shang Fu Zhong, was also involved in this a member of the grow-operation.
Charged is Shang Fu Zhong (28 years old) from Toronto, Ontario with Production of Marihuana, Conspiracy to Produce Marihuana, Laundering the Proceeds of Crime, Fraud over $5,000, Uttering Forged Documents and Possession of the Proceeds of Crime. He is scheduled to appear at Simcoe Court of Justice on April 15th, 2014 at 9:00 AM.
"The prevalence of marihuana grow operations in our neighborhoods leads to increased criminal activities, decreased real estate values, fire hazards and environmental dangers," stated Corporal Michelle Welsh of the Ontario RCMP.
"Marihuana grows pose a real threat to both public and police safety and the OPP remains strongly committed to working with all of our policing partners and communities across the province to stem the tide of illicit drugs," comments Provincial Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.
The investigation by the RCMP and OPP is continuing.
