KITCHENER, ON, Aug. 22, 2012 /CNW/ - As part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the OPP Organized Crime Team and the Kitchener Detachment RCMP Major Crime Unit, the RCMP have charged two Kitchener Area men for drug related offences involving marihuana and ketamine.
Van Duc NGO, age 34, of Kitchener Ontario, and Van Hien TRAN, age 27, also of Kitchener Ontario are both charged with the following offences;
- Trafficking a Controlled Substance contrary to section 5.(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Controlled Substance contrary to section 5.(2) CDSA
- Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to section 4.(1) CDSA
- Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence contrary to section 465.(1) Criminal Code
The RCMP commenced their investigation, dubbed Project OSIX, in December of 2011 as part of an OPP investigation into illegal gambling. The RCMP alleges that NGO and TRAN made efforts to transport approximately 25 pounds of marihuana into the Waterloo region via their personal vehicles. TRAN was arrested while transporting approximately 9 pounds of marihuana into the Brampton Ontario area. Subsequent to his arrest police executed a search warrant at TRAN'S residence where three pounds of marihuana and four grams of ketamine were seized.
"The sale and production of marihuana has direct links to organized crime which poses a significant threat to the health and safety of our communities", stated Sgt Paul Thompson, acting officer in charge of the Kitchener RCMP Detachment. "This investigation is another example of policing partners sharing resources and expertise to target these criminal elements".
The accused will appear in Kitchener Provincial court for a first appearance on October 22, 2012.
