TORONTO, Oct. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, October 16, 2012, in a public ceremony in Washington, DC, Constable Duncan MURRAY, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received an award for his efforts in the apprehension of a United States (US) Federal fugitive wanted for over a decade.
Glen Alan WARD had been sought by law enforcement officials since October of 2002 and was believed to be hiding in Canada. It is alleged that WARD had been involved in defrauding over 750 homeowners/clients.
In September of 2011, the Immigration Task Force (ITF) received information that suggested WARD may have been operating his international fraud scheme from Ontario. Cst. MURRAY, a member of the ITF, began the search for WARD. After months of investigation, Cst. MURRAY discovered the location of WARD. On April 10, 2012, WARD was arrested in Waterloo.
Cst Duncan Murray was recognized for his efforts through awards received from both the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and as well as the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP).
"Duncan put a lot of hard work into this investigation and these awards are a clear acknowledgement of his dedication to duty", said Sgt DeAnna Hill (in charge of the ITF). "I am very proud of him."
The Immigration Task Force (ITF) is comprised of personnel from the RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). This team works closely with other police and partner agencies to apprehend high-risk fugitives through collaboration and the effective use of intelligence.
