VANCOUVER, May 7, 2013 /CNW/ - Tourism is a trillion-dollar powerhouse. One of the fastest-growing global economic sectors, international tourists spend $2 million a minute, helping to drive trade and investment and accounting for one in every 12 jobs around the world.
Canada is a major player in the international tourism arena and Rendez-vous Canada (RVC), the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)-led international marketplace, plays a significant role annually in driving tourism business to this country. Hundreds of influential international travel buyers are jetting in to the nation's capital and the Ottawa Convention Centre, ON, May 12-15, for 23,000 pre-scheduled face-to-face business appointments with Canadian sellers of tourism products and services. In all, close to 1,500 tourism delegates will attend the four-day event.
"Rendez-Vous Canada welcomes the world to discover Canada as a premier destination of choice for international travellers," said the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism). "Our government is working with the Canadian Tourism Commission and the tourism industry to take full advantage of international growth opportunities while creating jobs in Canada."
The CTC's Canadian Signature Experiences (CSE) program, a collection of exceptional and engaging tourism products from every region of Canada, will be in full bloom in Ottawa. These experiences form the bedrock of CTC's consumer marketing campaigns in 10 countries.
CTC's new consumer website will be another source of inspiration for buyers: here, travellers are encouraged to share their authentic Canadian experiences via stories, photos and videos.
"Tourism is a key economic driver in Canada, bringing $15 billion in export tourism revenue from international travellers," says Michele McKenzie, CTC president and CEO. "RVC is a catalyst for this revenue by exposing so many high-end buyers to authentic Canadian tourism products, leading to hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts."
International tour operators, wholesalers and packagers come to RVC seeking enticing new products, services and packages that will stand out in a crowded global marketplace. CTC's emerging markets have a strong representation at RVC 2013, with China, Brazil and India leading the pack.
