Restored Interim Federal Health Program a huge victory for public health - A Statement from Dr. Cindy Forbes, President of the Canadian Medical Association Français
OTTAWA, Feb. 18, 2016 The CMA is celebrating today's announcement that all refugees and asylum claimants will once again benefit from health-care coverage when the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) is restored, beginning on April 1, 2016.
The CMA is one of several medical groups that have called for the reversal of cuts since changes to the IFHP were first announced in April 2012.
All refugees, regardless of sponsorship category, should receive appropriate and comprehensive health care coverage. The changes announced today will ensure that these individuals are treated with the compassion and equity we are known for as Canadians.
