Rideau Centre Unveils Dining Hall - Upscale urban dining at Ottawa's leading shopping destination Français
OTTAWA, Aug. 1, 2014 /CNW/ - The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited is pleased to announce the opening of the new Dining Hall in Ottawa's Rideau Centre, a major milestone in the $360 million multi-year redevelopment project.
The 35,000 square foot Dining Hall, located on Level 2, Nordstrom Court, features an urban, contemporary look and feel, with high-end finishes, a mix of seating areas and styles with communal tables, bars and banquettes, and large open kitchen spaces that stimulate new culinary experiences based on visual appetite-appeal. With direct access from Nicholas Street, the Dining Hall hosts sixteen eateries and provides seating for 850 guests.
"We are delighted to provide visitors to Rideau Centre with an elevated dining experience featuring a wide variety of food choices, including international cuisines such as Indian, Asian, and Mediterranean as well as local specialties," said Salvatore Iacono, Senior Vice President, Development and Portfolio Management, Eastern Canada, Cadillac Fairview. "The dining area has tripled in size, and we have introduced several new and exciting eateries to complement familiar favorites our customers already enjoy," added Iacono.
Designed to reflect Cadillac Fairview's national sustainability program, GREEN AT WORK™, Rideau Centre's Dining Hall also boasts Ottawa's only scullery operation that offers shoppers real dishes, glassware and metal cutlery.
"The addition of the scullery is a significant upgrade and sets a new standard for environmentally responsible operations," said Cindy VanBuskirk, General Manager of Rideau Centre. "By providing reusable dishware and cutlery, millions of pieces of packaging containers, cups and plastic cutlery will be diverted from landfill." The scullery operation provides four staffed food tray collection and recycle stations, energy efficient dishwashing equipment, and a solid waste compactor that reduces food waste by up to 88 percent. "All organic waste will be sent to a composting facility, enabling Rideau Centre to significantly improve our overall waste diversion rate," said VanBuskirk.
The opening of the Dining Hall is a significant highlight in the revitalization and expansion of Rideau Centre that will continue until 2016 and include new best-in-class and first-to-market retailers such as Simons, Nordstrom, J. Crew and other leading brands.
"We are very excited about the changes underway and proud of our accomplishments to date," said Iacono. "The redevelopment of Rideau Centre reflects Cadillac Fairview's commitment to creating exciting retail environments that deliver world-class retailers and high quality dining opportunities - these are the necessary ingredients to create memorable shopping experiences."
