Dietitians of Canada stir up 'Cookspiration' in the kitchen for Nutrition Month 2014
TORONTO, Feb. 24, 2014 /CNW/ - This March, Dietitians of Canada is encouraging Canadians to 'Simply Cook and Enjoy!' in celebration of Nutrition Month 2014. According to an Ipsos Reid poll conducted for Dietitians of Canada, 43 per cent of Canadians say they do not cook balanced meals for themselves or their family on a regular basis. In an effort to bring Canadians back into the kitchen, this year's Nutrition Month will serve up practical advice, tools and suggestions from registered dietitians to make it easier for Canadians to cook at home.
"Research shows that families have healthier diets when they cook and eat at home," says Gina Sunderland, a Registered Dietitian and Dietitians of Canada Nutrition Month spokesperson from Winnipeg. However, according to key reports on the subject, "many feel they don't have the time or the skills. As dietitians we want to show and inspire Canadians how to overcome these barriers. A healthy home-cooked meal can be simple, quick and delicious."
Throughout the month of March, dietitians will be setting Canadians up to cook by sharing their food and nutrition expertise. They will be serving up tips on a number of subjects, including, how to make budget friendly healthy food in a hurry. Some of the "make it easy" secrets include:
