Six months after the Summit on territories and resources, the AFNQL and the Marois government agree to pursue their efforts Français
WENDAKE, QC, June 18, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - From the day after the election of the Marois government, the AFNQL invited the Premier and her government to a Summit on territories and its resources. The goal of AFNQL was, and continues to be, to identify with the Quebec government a harmonious, respectful and beneficial way for all concerned, to cohabit on the territory and to conserve and exploit the resources.
"Patiently, consistently and with determination, the First Nations continue to assert their territorial rights. In the past, successive governments regularly failed to fulfill their obligations in regard to our rights, and this brought adverse and very concrete consequences on the First Nations. Premier Marois committed to doing things differently, and to work together with us on finding solutions. She reiterates this commitment today."
"The Chiefs in attendance acknowledge and appreciate the determination of the Premier. We are still witnessing on both sides that the challenges are many and paramount for both the First Nations and Quebec as a whole, but we have agreed today to continue to work together on finding solutions. I believe it is an obligation for both sides", stated Ghislain Picard, Chief of the AFNQL, after a meeting held today in Quebec City.
