Two renowned microbreweries launch operations in Quebec
MONTREAL, Aug. 15, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Six Pints has arrived in Quebec, bringing with it a selection of beers from two microbreweries already well known in Ontario and British Columbia: Creemore Springs and Granville Island Brewing Company. Introduced in Quebec at the end of July, the beers are being progressively integrated into the products offered by the province's bars and restaurants and will be available in grocery and convenience stores by the end of August.
"The market for craft and specialty beers is the fastest growing in the industry, and over the past decade, Quebec has seen annual average growth of 9% when these beers are consumed in commercial establishments and 4% for home consumption. Six Pints will initially offer its products in the Montreal, Quebec City and Gatineau markets, and our objective is to soon go province-wide," explained Jennifer Davidson, General Manager of Six Pints.
"We are hoping to build on this exciting market to enable beer purists and enthusiasts to discover different and flavourful beers. In the coming years, Six Pints wants to grow its business in Quebec, whether through its current brands or through a collaboration with other brewers. Six Pints will offer tasty experiences through products crafted in a unique way, blending the best of both good old-fashioned and contemporary brewing traditions. That's a promise from a true beer lover!" affirmed Ms. Davidson.
"The Brewers Association of Canada estimates that 10 million Canadians drink beer, and some 21.9 million hectolitres are produced each year. Moreover, Quebec is the second largest microbrewery market, trailing only British Columbia. Beer is the number one alcoholic beverage in Canada in terms of both production and consumption, so it makes sense to open up the market and enable Quebecers to discover beers from two important and innovative microbreweries in the country," concluded Ms. Davidson.

The brewery, which recently expanded its facilities, produces 75,000 hl annually and aims to double this volume within three years.
About Granville Island Brewing Company

A short history of the name Six Pints
Six Pints refers to a little known fact in Canadian history. In the late 1700s, soldiers were entitled to six pints of beer per day as part of their compensation. Not surprisingly, this method of remuneration was finally halted, but the attachment of Quebecers and Canadians to beer persisted, and they have continued to enjoy and appreciate their beer ever since.
