Statement by Minister Joly on Holi - Today, communities of Hindu faith in Canada and around the world celebrate Holi, or the Festival of Colours Français
OTTAWA, March 2, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, people of Hindu faith in Canada and around the world celebrate Holi, one of the most joyous and popular festivals of the year.
Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours, marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring. It is a chance to celebrate peace and friendship, and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Families and friends gather to dance, sing, eat, light bonfires, and douse one another with water and coloured powder.
Holi is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many contributions that Canadians of the Hindu faith have made in shaping the strong and diverse country that we enjoy today.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Multiculturalism, I wish everyone celebrating the festival a very happy Holi.
