Today, Jewish communities in Canada and around the world celebrate the beginning of Passover
OTTAWA, March 30, 2018 /CNW/ - This evening at sunset, Jewish communities across Canada and around the world will mark the beginning of Passover, one of the most important holidays in the Jewish calendar.
During the festivities, families and friends gather to enjoy the ceremonial Seder meals and the retelling of the story of the Exodus of the Jewish people from slavery. The Passover story's message of redemption and hope reminds us all of the need to stand up against antisemitism and other forms of hatred and discrimination, to choose unity over division, and to work together to make our world a better place for everyone.
We are proud that Canada is home to one of the largest Jewish communities in the world. Jewish Canadians have made invaluable contributions to shaping and building the strong and diverse country we know today, and I invite all Canadians to take this opportunity to learn more about the Jewish community here in Canada.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Multiculturalism, I extend my best wishes to all those observing Passover. Chag pesach sameach!
