The Hindu community in Canada and around the world celebrates the start of the Navratri Festival
OTTAWA, Oct. 9, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, the Hindu communities throughout Canada, South Asia and the world are celebrating the start of the sacred Festival of Navratri.
Navratri is one of the most important festivals for the Hindu community. It marks the triumph of good over evil and is celebrated for nine nights and ten days. A time of introspection and devotion, Navratri brings family and friends together to pray, exchange vows and celebrate.
Navratri represents an opportunity for Canadians to learn more about the rich culture of Canada's Hindu community. As we mark the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act this year, we also thank Canadian Hindus for their efforts in making Canada the diverse, inclusive, strong and prosperous country we know today.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, I wish all those celebrating Navratri an enjoyable festival.
