Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on Attendance at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games Français
OTTAWA, March 3, 2014 /CNW/ - Our Canadian Paralympic athletes have been training and preparing for the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games - an incredible milestone in their sport careers. As Minister of State (Sport), I was looking forward to the opportunity to cheer them on as they compete against the world's best in Sochi.
However, given Russian President Vladimir Putin's military intervention in Ukraine, the Government of Canada will not send an official government representative to the Paralympic Games. Our government continues to condemn the actions of the Russian government.
Along with Canadians across the country, we will be watching, cheering, and believing, as our athletes compete for Canada while proudly wearing the Maple Leaf. As the largest single contributor to amateur sport in the country, our government fully supports the Canadian Paralympic Committee and our athletes.
