Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the City Selection of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup™ Français
OTTAWA, May 4, 2012 /CNW/ - As Minister of State for Sport, I was excited to learn of the six cities that will host the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup™ as we get ready to welcome this premier women's sporting event in Canada.
As the single largest contributor to sport in this country, our government is proud of Canada's reputation as a top sporting nation, and we are pleased to be a key supporter in the hosting of this prestigious event.
The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup™ will provide Canadians with the opportunity to witness world-class soccer action right in their own backyards. We recognize that interest in the great sport of soccer is increasing at a rapid pace, and that awareness and pride of our national teams is at an all-time high.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I applaud the Canadian Soccer Association on its efforts to bring the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup to Canada. As well, I congratulate the cities of Moncton, Montréal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Vancouver, who will be hosting this event and showcasing our great nation to the world.
