Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Death of Wayne Trask

OTTAWA, Aug. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - I was saddened to learn of the death of Wayne Trask, a sport enthusiast and member of the Canada Games Council from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Wayne Trask was the president of the Host Society for the 1999 Canada Games in Corner Brook. Since 2005, he had sat on Canada Games Council's board of directors, performing a number of important roles. A few weeks ago, he oversaw the induction of new members into the Canada Games Hall of Honour, as part of the 2013 Canada Summer Games, in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Mr. Trask influenced Canada's sports community through his contribution to the success of the Canada Games over the years. He leaves a tremendous legacy for our young athletes, members of the Canada Games Council and all those who had the privilege of working with him.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Wayne Trask, as well as to the extended Canada Games family, who have lost a remarkable sports ambassador and an exemplary Canadian.
