Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 34th ADISQ Gala Français
OTTAWA, Oct. 28, 2012 /CNW/ - On the occasion of the 34th ADISQ gala, I am pleased to highlight the remarkable contribution that songwriters, composers, performers, entrepreneurs and artisans in Quebec's music industry make to our society.
Our Government knows that the arts and culture are important drivers of economic growth, creating jobs and providing a source of wealth and pride for our communities. Because of the talent and creative spirit of Canadians, our country has a leading place on the international stage. We rank third in terms of exports of musical talents, and we are the world's seventh-largest sound-recording market.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I commend the efforts of the Association québécoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacle et de la vidéo (ADISQ) to support the work of our artists. Congratulations to all of this year's finalists and winners, particularly Mes Aïeux (group of the year), Cœur de pirate (female performer of the year) and Vincent Vallières (male performer of the year).
