Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Death of Jean-Guy Moreau

OTTAWA, May 1, 2012 /CNW/ - It was with great sadness that I learned today of the death of Jean-Guy Moreau.

Throughout a career that spanned more than 50 years, the comedian and impressionist Jean-Guy Moreau provoked several generations of Quebeckers to thought, as well as to laughter, by impersonating well known artists and public figures. Starting out, along with other great artists, in nightclubs in the early '60s, Jean-Guy Moreau played an important role in the arts community. In addition to renewing humour in Quebec, he distinguished himself through theatre, film, song, radio, and television.

In recognition of his achievements and his exceptional career, Mr. Moreau was named a Member of the Order of Canada. He was also inducted into the Just for Laughs Museum's Entertainers Hall of Fame.
