Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 20th Annual Indspire Awards Français
OTTAWA, Feb. 15, 2013 /CNW/ - First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people have helped shape our country's identity, and they continue to occupy a special place within Canada today. Through the annual Indspire Awards, Indspire highlights the outstanding accomplishments of Aboriginal professionals and youth in a number of different fields. These accomplishments are a source of pride for Aboriginal communities throughout Canada.
Since the Awards were created in 1993, Indspire has celebrated the achievements of some 270 men and women. These individuals are role models for Aboriginal people and examples for all Canadians of how to achieve excellence through an ongoing commitment to their communities. Our Government is pleased to be a partner in presenting these awards, because we recognize the importance of preserving and revitalizing Aboriginal languages and cultures.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate this year's 14 award winners. Their talent and determination are an inspiration to all Canadians.
