Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the Port Moody Canadian Film Festival Français
OTTAWA, March 15, 2012 /CNW/ - For over a decade, the annual Port Moody Canadian Film Festival has allowed film lovers in the Vancouver area to discover some of the best Canadian films. Port Moody's film festival is western Canada's only all-Canadian film festival. This year, the four-day festival will feature a wealth of Canada's latest film achievements, including the 2012 Oscar-nominated Monsieur Lazhar and the 2011 Oscar-nominated Barney's Version.
In 2011-2012, Canadian film dazzled us with top-tier productions that enjoyed success both at home and abroad. The success of Canadian films reflects the importance of the audiovisual industry to our society, both culturally and economically. Our Government is pleased to support this sector with an investment of more than $600 million each year.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate the Port Moody Film Society and everyone involved in the success of this wonderful celebration of cinema. You are not only helping to promote Canadian film, but enriching the cultural life of British Columbia.
