Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Presentation of the 2013 Jutra Awards Français
OTTAWA, March 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Once again this year, Quebec cinema has distinguished itself with top-quality films that showcase our talents at home and around the world.
The Soirée des Jutra gives us the opportunity to honour Quebec cinema and its talented creators and artisans. The sheer number of films submitted to the jury this year—241 short and medium-length fiction films, 32 feature films, 20 short and medium-length animated films, and 41 feature-length documentaries—is proof of the vitality of our film industry.
I would like to congratulate the winners of this year's Jutra Awards, in particular:
- Best Actor: Julien Poulin (Camion)
- Best Actress: Rachel Mwanza (War Witch)
- Best Director: Kim Nguyen (War Witch)
- Best Film: War Witch
I would also like to acknowledge Michel Côté, recipient of this year's Jutra Award for Lifetime Achievement. This great actor is known for his outstanding performances on stage, on television and in film, notably in Cruising Bar, C.R.A.Z.Y., and Father and Guns. He is a true icon of our entertainment industry.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I congratulate all the finalists and winners of the 2013 Jutra Awards. You can be proud of what you have achieved.
