Statement by the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development on the importance of putting people at the centre of a growing economy Français
QUÉBEC, April 7, 2018 /CNW/ - "I had the opportunity to participate in the B7 Business Summit, organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, in Québec. Meetings like this one are of paramount importance to discuss with other countries best practices for our communities and to share new possibilities for future success.
This was one of the first of many engagements with Canadians ahead of the G7 Leader's Summit in June. The B7 Summit gave me the opportunity to discuss key topics, such as efficiency of resources, prosperous small enterprises and growth that benefits all. In order to allow for prosperity of our country for everyone, we must recognize the importance of inclusion and provide equal economic opportunities to every Canadian.
As Canada's Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, I know first-hand how hard Canadian women and men work every day and taking part in these discussions is essential in order to collectively continue to develop policies that better support the middle class and those who are working hard to join it.
Over the last two years, Canada's economic growth has been fueled by a stronger middle class. Canadians' hard work, combined with historic investments in people and in communities, helped to create more good jobs while more help for those who need it most has meant more money for people to save, invest, and spend in their communities. We need to ensure the benefits of a growing economy are felt by more and more people. It is not just the right thing to do, it is the smart thing to do. Canada's future prosperity depends on it. The Government of Canada is committed to developing innovative, socially responsible and inclusive programs to give all Canadians a real and fair chance at success.
Québec was an evident choice to host the B7 Business Summit to highlight its innovative spirit and leadership, and to place it at the forefront of the economic development of Canada. Like many other leading Canadian cities, it is faced with the challenges and the opportunities created by constant economic changes. Hosting an event as big as this one shows tremendous initiative. I salute all the hard work that has gone into making it a success
A prosperous country starts with its people. Everyone must be included and given a chance to achieve success. Together, we will grow the Canadian economy."
