Statement by the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport - Government of Canada welcomes GTAA report, encourages responsive and flexible air transportation system Français
OTTAWA, April 10, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, issued this statement today:
"I have received a copy of the Greater Toronto Airport Authority's report, Toronto Pearson January 2014 Operations Disruption: Review and Recommendations.
"I am reviewing the report's recommendations with great interest and expect the Airport Authority will take the steps necessary to improve contingency planning. I also urge other Canadian airport authorities, carriers and other airport service providers to review their own contingency planning.
"In a country such as ours, where weather can significantly impact the efficiency of our transportation system, resiliency planning is that much more important. A breakdown in any part of the air transportation chain can affect the entirety of the system. So we must be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to a whole range of situations that cause disruption - be it serious weather or something else. Travellers expect this; I expect this.
"The Government of Canada is supporting the GTAA and the air transport sector in their efforts to ensure Canada's national airports, airlines and all others who play a role in air transportation are well prepared in the future."
