Statement by the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour Français
CALGARY, April 20, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, issued the following statement regarding the collective bargaining negotiations between Canadian Pacific Railway , Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW):
"Our Government believes in the collective bargaining process. I met with the parties in Calgary and encouraged them to continue their hard work to reach a fair deal that avoids any disruption in service.
On the advice of federal mediators and with the cooperation of all parties involved, I will be asking the Canada Industrial Relations Board to administer a vote on the latest offers the members of the affected bargaining units have received from CP. This is the next step in the process and will occur pursuant to Section 108.1 of the Canada Labour Code.
Mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) have been working with the parties and will continue to do so.
Operations of both freight and rail service will continue during the time the votes are being conducted."
