Statement by the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour Français
GATINEAU, QC, Oct. 24, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, issued the following statement regarding the collective bargaining negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers:
"Our government believes in the collective bargaining process. We are doing everything possible to help the parties quickly reach an agreement that works for all.
Today, I appointed a special mediator to assist Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers in reaching an agreement.
Morton Mitchnick is a highly respected senior arbitrator and mediator, and former Chair of the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
Mr. Mitchnick joins the team of federal mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service who have been working with the two parties. I am hopeful that he will bring a new perspective to the negotiating table, which could help the parties to progress in reaching an agreement that works for all.
I have met with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Canada Post to encourage both parties to continue to negotiate.
I will continue to monitor the situation closely."
