Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the 86th Academy Awards Français
OTTAWA, March 3, 2014 /CNW/ - Canadian talent was in the limelight at the 86th Academy Awards, as our artists and creators were showcased among the best in the world.
Canadian artists and creators received well-deserved recognition, proving once again that our country has earned its prominent reputation in the film industry.
Our Government knows that the Canadian film industry contributes to the vitality of our cultural life and is an important sector of our economy. In 2012-2013, the efforts of talented people working in film and television production in Canada helped generate $5.82 billion for the economy and employed approximately 127,700 Canadians. I'm very proud of our talented filmmakers and pleased that our Government provides them with support. Every year, we invest more than $600 million in our audiovisual sector through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts and tax credits.
Congratulations to all the Canadians whose achievements and dedication were applauded at the 86th Academy Awards.
