Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 35th Gala de l'ADISQ Français
MONTRÉAL, Oct. 27, 2013 /CNW/ - I would like to applaud the performers, songwriters, composers, entrepreneurs, and artisans of Quebec's vibrant music industry who took part in the 35th Gala de l'ADISQ. Their talent and dedication enrich our lives and are recognized and celebrated at home and around the world.
Our Government recognizes that the Canadian music industry contributes to the vitality of our cultural life and is an important sector of our economy. The music industry generates nearly $3 billion every year in economic activity from sound recordings, concerts, commercial radio, and performing rights. The Canada Music Fund (CMF) gives Canadians and the rest of the world access to diverse Canadian musical choices. In an average year, the CMF helps support about 400 album production projects and 1000 marketing, touring, and showcasing initiatives.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I commend the work of the Association québécoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacle et de la vidéo (ADISQ) and congratulate our talented music artists and creators, whose achievements and dedication are a source of pride for our communities.
