Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the occasion of the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards Français
OTTAWA, Jan. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - The 56th annual GRAMMY Awards once again treated music lovers to a night of entertainment and highlighted Canadian music as some of the world's best.
Thanks to Canadian talent and creativity, our country occupies a special place on the international music scene. In fact, Canada is the third largest exporter of musical talent in the world.
Our Government recognizes that the Canadian music industry contributes to the vitality of our cultural life and is an important sector of our economy. The music industry generates nearly $3 billion every year in economic activity from sound recordings, concerts, commercial radio, and performing rights. The Canada Music Fund gives Canadians and the rest of the world access to diverse Canadian musical choices. In an average year, the Fund helps support over 400 album production projects and 1,000 marketing, touring, and showcasing initiatives.
Congratulations to our talented music artists and creators, whose achievements and dedication are a source of pride for our country.
