TORONTO, April 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is warning people to stay clear of hydroelectric dams and generating stations this Easter holiday weekend.
"With the arrival of spring and the warming temperatures, ice near a dam or hydroelectric generating station can be thinner than ice in other locations because of changing water flows beneath it," says OPG's Senior Vice-President of Hydro-Thermal Operations Mike Martelli. "The areas around our generating stations and dams are clearly marked - please obey all warning signs, and respect fences and barriers. 'Stay Clear! Stay Safe!' is our message."
The waterways near Ontario Power Generation (OPG) facilities are not safe places for recreation at any time of the year. The arrival of spring means warmer weather and rapidly changing conditions on lakes and rivers. Please, exercise caution when near waterways and stay off the ice as it is unstable at this time of year.
