Steelworkers Sends Emergency Response Team as well as Thoughts to USW Members and Families at Babine Forest Products Français
BURNABY, BC, Jan. 21, 2012 /CNW/ - United Steelworkers (USW) Western Canadian Director Steve Hunt has issued the following statement in response to the explosion at Babine Forest Products in Burns Lake:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been injured, their families and the workers of Babine Forest Products. The United Steelworkers join all British Columbians in praying for their recovery.
We offer our deep condolences to those families who may have lost loved ones.
The workers at Babine Forest Products are proud members of the United Steelworkers, and during this difficult time all members of our union are coming together to offer their full support to our brothers and sisters at Babine Forest Products."
The United Steelworkers Local 1-424, which represents employees at Babine Forest Products, is offering support to families of injured workers to ensure they can be by their side while receiving medical care in hospital.
As well, the union has also dispatched its' Emergency Response Team (ERT) to Burns Lake. The USW's ERT coordinator, Al McDougall, will be on site to provide assistance and support to Babine Forest Products workers, their families, and the local community.
