$30,000 grant to provide new and disadvantaged Canadian youth with increased access to hockey
TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2017 /CNW/ -- StubHub, the world's largest ticket marketplace, today announced a $30,000 grant to Hockey 4 Youth from the StubHub Foundation, a corporate advised fund of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, to provide new and disadvantaged Canadian youth with an opportunity to play hockey and learn valuable life skills through its program.
The funding from the StubHub Foundation will be used to help Hockey 4 Youth expand its services to new schools as well as support current programming costs such as equipment and ice time for their youth participants. The impact of this grant will help Canadian youth in Toronto and Montreal learn Canada's game as well as enroll in Hockey 4 Youth's off-ice T.E.A.C.H. program (Technology, Entrepreneurship, Application, Community giving, Health active living).
"StubHub is committed to supporting the communities in which we operate and we believe all Canadians should have access to the sports they love," said Cameron Papp, StubHub Communications Manager. "Hockey 4 Youth is a natural partner for us, as we can work together to enable Canadian youth to create meaningful connections with one another and learn important life skills through its unique program."
To launch the partnership, StubHub and Hockey 4 Youth held a special event with Olympic gold medalist, Vicky Sunohara, UAE hockey superstar Fatima Al-Ali, and Toronto Furies' all-star Carlee Eusepi. The event, held today at Leaside Memorial Arena, saw Hockey 4 Youth's young participants receive hockey equipment and lace up their skates to hit the ice, many for the first time, to run through drills led by the athletes.
"The partnership with StubHub will help us continue our mission to remove the economic and social barriers that prevent new Canadian youth from the joys of hockey," said Moezine Hasham, Co-founder and Executive Director of Hockey 4 Youth. "According to a report by the Institute of Canadian Citizenship, 71 per cent of new citizens have an interest in hockey but only one per cent will have an opportunity to play the game. Our goal is to eradicate this gap."
StubHub and the StubHub Foundation support grassroots non-profits that are focused on expanding access and opportunity for at-risk youth through sports, music and performing arts education programs. Since its inception in 2012, the StubHub Foundation and StubHub's charitable giving have dedicated more than $4 million to support more than 50 organizations, globally.
